Finding Joy At Work

by Jan 12, 2018

Let’s spread having a good attitude like wild fire!

We have all heard the phrase “My pleasure” spoken at places like Disney, or most famously, Chick-fil-A. But why has this phrase caught on and been adopted by so many companies? This particular phrase expresses that doing our job isn’t something to say “you are welcome” to, but to instead, insist that we find joy and fulfillment from doing what we do. It’s that attitude of a servant’s heart that we can all learn from and implement in our daily lives. Our daily interactions with people, customers, family members, and even other drivers on the road, are what make us who we are. Finding joy at work, home, and in life comes from changing our outlook, not by changing our situation.

Honestly ask yourself these 3 questions to get started.

Our attitude towards others determines their attitude towards us.

Earl Nightingale

1. Are You Approachable?

A genuine smile goes a long way! This is a simple and infectious method you can implement right now.  You will be shocked how many more conversations happen when you seem open. It breaks down the walls we all put up of being too busy with our own work to acknowledge others.

2. Are You A Good Listener?

When getting to know someone new, it is essential to really listen to them. Giving them reign of the conversation and asking questions about them will allow them to connect with you on a deeper level. Having a great conversation about your goals, beliefs, and pain points is the foundation of a great business relationship. Talking for more than half of a conversation is a strong sign that you could work on your listening skills!

One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.

3. Are You All Talk, No Action?

Your actions must match your words. Telling people how you are going to help them is great, but showing them that your word is good is vital.  Your constant commitment, communication, follow through, and even your apologies when you drop the ball is what will make you stand out from everyone else. Integrity is one quality that we should all strive to have in spades.

What does having a servant’s heart look like to you?
